If an online firm doesn?t possess credit card payment facilities, certainly it loses consumers and sales. Credit card payments are safe and secure, and they guarantee the best customer service. Besides, these payments give a more professional look to any business.

Several different types of credit card processing terminals are available in today's market. These terminals are also referred to as point of sale (POS) terminals. Their type and style depend on the kind of business and style of credit card processing. Prices also vary according to their functions and the technology they use.

Card readers with a small keypad and display are the most basic form of the POS. These are the most economical type of terminals. A credit card processing terminal first checks the customer?s card information. After that, it withdraws money for the purchase from his account and places it directly into the merchant account.

Most merchants prefer a terminal without an attached printer, while retail merchants usually go for a terminal with an integrated printer. There are also wireless machines that are more costly, but the processing volume supports their cost. Wireless credit card processing terminals are mainly used for businesses that continually change their location. Door-to-door salesmen, taxi cab drivers, and seasonal shop owners are the main other consumers of wireless terminals.

Manual credit card processing is a difficult task and it is more time consuming too. The finest choice is to automate your manual credit card processing machine, if possible. Credit card processing machines use different software packages that provide for instant processing, and encrypted SSL (secure socket layer) for safe deals. Of course, any leaks or losses of personal information immediately break the credibility of a business.

Some latest credit card processing terminals can handle multiple merchant accounts. Examples include Nurit 2085, Omni 3750, Nurit 3020, Omni 3740, and Verifone Tranz 380x2. All these terminals provide retailers a fast, low-cost way to approve and process credit card sales. It is up to parents to teach their children
what's right and what's wrong, how to conduct themselves as good
citizens, how to cross the road safely and generally protect
themselves from harm. In fact, up until the time that child is
an adult, the parents have responsibilities in every part of
that child's life, right up until the time they are a college
student.

The influence of the parents, however, goes way beyond college
student days. Whether they like it or not, or even admit it,
everyone is influenced not only by the way their parents have
treated them, but also by the behavioural patterns of the
parents. That influence can be good, bad or neutral, but it is
there, and it affects many aspects of daily lives. One of the
main features of daily life is finance: money, debt, borrowing,
lending, spending, and credit cards all fall within that sphere.

It follows that parents can have an influence on their
children's attitude to credit cards and credit card debt. As a
good teacher, mentor and financial adviser, the parent can help
to create a positive financial attitude in their children that
will help them through their college student days, and eliminate
or prevent credit card debt from their future lives.

What Can A Parent Do To Help Their Student Children Prevent
Debt?

Parents are not the only influence on their children. They and
their children face a barrage of marketing for credit cards that
has reached brainwashing proportions. Easy credit pervades
society like a highly contagious virus; it is difficult enough
for the parents not to succumb to the debt that follows easy
credit, let alone their student children. And if the parents
succumb, what chance do the children have?

Well, all is not entirely lost. All parents know, or should
know, that trying to force feed attitudes and habits on their
maturing children is likely to backfire. Many children are
rebellious, and will often be inclined to go against the parents
wishes or advice. That would apply as much to teaching how to
manage their finances as anything else.

However, if you accept that you cannot just force something on
your children, you can bring them up in an environment that may,
through their own observation, make the children think twice
about running up credit card debts as a student, and later still
in their lives. Here are just a few ideas:

1. Get the children into the saving habit from a young age, but
do it in a way that let's them see the benefits. Start a savings
account for them even as a one year old, and as they get a bit
older, just explain to them what it is and why. No harsh
lectures, just a simple explanation that you are helping them to
save money for something they will appreciate later. But not too
much into the future; saying they will not be able to touch it
until they are 25 will not help.

The savings theme can be on two levels. Part of the savings
could be long term, but part also for something the child will
be able to buy within a year. That way, the child has the
anticipation of a benefit within a reasonable time; the balance
of the savings can go on to accumulate. Ensure you have a
savings account that will pay interest on all money in the
account, so that when the first and subsequent interest payments
are posted to the account, you can show the child that they have
this "bonus" in their account. Explain it is the bank paying
them money for leaving their savings in the account.

It is important for the child to feel that it is their money
that is being saved, so explain it is part of their pocket money
being put away. Also encourage them, but not force them, to
sometimes put birthday or other gift money in the account too.
Over the years, this will, hopefully, become a habit that is a
useful contra to the debt culture. They will get used to the
bank paying them, so when it comes to considering credit cards
later, they may be more likely to question the large interest
charges the bank makes for using the credit cards.

2. Encourage children to earn a bit of extra pocket money by
doing little jobs around the house or in the garden. Say this
will help them save for whatever it is they want to save for.
Car washing, mowing the lawn when old enough, vacuuming;
whatever needs to be done, ask if they would like to do the jobs
for the extra money. Then, when paid, encourage them, but do not
force them, to save at least part of the earnings. Again, this
could become a habit that will stand them in good stead later
on, and they will tend to consider the working route to extra
money rather than expensive borrowing.

3. When they start doing more advanced maths, say at 9 or 10
years old, help them do a little budget plan for their savings.
That will be a simple but quite mature approach for them.

4. The most difficult of all is to set a good example, but do
not make a big fuss about it. Mention casually once in a while,
for example when there's a commercial on television for a credit
card, that the charges are so high, but it is probably best not
to give serious lectures and warnings about credit cards and
debt. Try not to use credit cards yourself, especially lavishly
and in front of the children.

There is not guarantee that any of the above will make one iota
of difference, but at least, as with many aspects of parenting,
you have given it your best shot.

About the Author: Roy Thomsitt is owner and part author of the
http://www.eliminate-credit-card-debt-now.com website

Source: http://www.isnare.com

Credit Card Terminals

Credit Card Debt – Watch Your Credit Report And Your Bill
By Charles Essmeier

Most consumers are aware of the importance of their credit
report. This document, offered to consumers and lenders by the
three major credit bureaus, offers a fairly complete list of
financial transactions and debts incurred by a consumer.
Lenders examine the report, along with the associated FICO
score, to determine whether a consumer is worthy of receiving
additional credit or loans. What many consumers may not know is
that credit card companies regularly check their credit reports,
and unfavorable entries may result in a higher interest rate on
their credit cards.

We have previously noted that many credit card companies employ
something known as a “universal default clause” in their terms
of service. This clause allows the company to raise interest
rates on the customer’s card if the customer pays bills late. A
late payment to the phone company could result in a higher
interest rate on the Visa card. Most companies also allow
themselves the latitude to raise their customers’ interest
rates for any reason at all. With this in mind, the credit card
companies tend to run occasional credit checks on their
customers, often raising rates if they notice any activity
that, in their opinion, makes the customer a higher risk. This
might happen even if the customer has a history of paying his
or her credit card bills on time.

The sorts of things that may create a “risky” client include
taking out additional loans, additional credit cards, or
building balances on existing cards to at or near their limits.
The companies justify this activity by saying that consumers who
do these things create greater risk for the lender, and these
costs must be passed on to all of their customers. The problem
for the customer is that these higher interest rates are often
assigned without warning. The new rate applies to existing
balances, too. An interest rate hike today could mean that the
television you bought last fall has suddenly become more
expensive.

What can consumers do? Keep an eye on your credit card bill and
your credit report. You can receive a copy of your credit
report, for free, at http://www.annualcreditreport.com. As for
your credit card bill, watch the interest rate. If it abruptly
changes to a higher rate, call your credit card issuer and ask
them about it. They will often reduce the rate if you call and
complain. If not, your only option may be to shop around for
another card.

About the Author: ©Copyright 2005 by Retro Marketing.

Credit Card, What Are The Differences?
By James Dimmitt

Ah, the “good old days”. If you are a baby boomer, like me,
then you probably remember how important it was to rush to the
bank on payday. You had to get there before the teller lanes
closed so that you could have your “cash allowance” for the
week. Otherwise, if you needed cash you had to write a check,
then go to the bank, and “cash” the check for real cash.

Fortunately the days of the mad rush to get cash from the bank
are long gone. We now enjoy the convenience of using a nearby
automatic teller machine (ATM) or you can even get “cash back”
at your local grocery, hardware or convenience store.

The card you use at the ATM is known as a debit card. When
debit cards first appeared it was easy to tell them apart from
credit cards. Debit cards didn’t have a credit card company
logo on them; instead, they usually just had your bank name,
your account number and your name.

Today debit cards look exactly like credit cards even carrying
the same logos. Both types of cards can be swiped at the
checkout counter , used to make purchases on the internet, or
to pay for the fill-up at the gas pump.

When you use your debit card to make a purchase, it’s just like
using cash. The account that is attached to your debit card, in
most cases your checking account, is automatically debited when
you use your debit card. The cost of your purchase is deducted
from the funds you have in that account.

On the other hand, when you use your credit card to make a
purchase you are using someone’s else’s money, specifically the
issuer of the credit card, usually a banking institution.

In effect, you agree to pay them back the money you borrowed to
make your purchase. In addition you will also pay interest on
the money “loaned” to you at the rate which you agreed to when
you applied for their credit card. This is known as the annual
percentage rate (APR).

While the two cards might act and look alike, the levels of
consumer protection that each type of card provides can be
different.

Under federal law, if someone steals your credit card you're
only responsible to pay the first $50 of unauthorized charges.
However, if you notify the credit card issuer before a thief is
able to make any charges you may be free from all liability.
If the credit card is not physically present when an
unauthorized or fraudulent purchase is made, such as over the
internet, you’re also free from liability for those charges.

MasterCard and Visa offer zero-liability protection where you
won’t pay any charges if someone uses your credit card to make
an unauthorized purchase.

The protection offered to debit card fraud is similar but with
a few exceptions. For example, your liability under federal
law is limited to $50, the same as for a credit card, but only
if you notify the issuer within two business days of
discovering the card's loss or theft. Your liability for
debit card fraud can jump up to $500 if you don’t report the
loss or theft within two business days.

And if you are the type of person that gives a passing glance
to your monthly bank statement, you could be totally liable for
any fraudulent debit card charges if you wait 60 days or more
from the time your statement is mailed.

Visa and MasterCard zero-liability protection applies to your
debit card but only for transactions that do not involve the
use of your PIN (personal identification number).

Additional protection against fraudulent use of your credit or
debit cards may be available through your homeowner’s or
renter’s insurance. Check your policy or with your agent for
more information about your coverage.

Also be aware that you should contact your card issuer by
certified letter, return receipt requested, after you’ve
contacted them by phone to protect your consumer rights.

As for which card to use for what type of purchase, most
experts agree that you should use your debit card for the same
type of purchases you’d make as if you were using cash.
Therefore, it makes more sense to use your debit card than your
credit card at the grocery store or gas station (provided you
have sufficient funds to cover these purchases of course).

Avoid using your debit card for any online purchase or for
something which is expensive. Why ? You’ll find it much
easier to dispute a charge when you use your credit card. If
your gold-plated, limited edition, hip-swinging Elvis wall
clock arrives broken, your credit card company will remove the
charge until the problem is resolved.

With your debit card you are stuck dealing with the merchant
directly to resolve any problems with a purchase, even if your
banking institution could really use a gold-plated, limited
edition, hip-swinging Elvis wall clock of their very own.

About the Author: © 2005,
http://www.yourfreecreditreportnow.com Author: James H. Lenders are
more hesitant of financing vehicles with unknown pasts.
However, you can find reasonable rates on auto loans by lining
up your financing before you go car shopping. A down payment of
10% or more, plus shopping with a car dealer can also improve
your rates.

Get Financing First, Then Car Shop

Pre-approved auto loans have a number of advantages. First, you
find out what you qualify to borrow before you get stuck in a
contract. You can also play around with loan terms to find a
reasonable monthly payment. And sellers are eager to close a
deal with a buyer that has secure financing.

Used cars loans often require a slightly higher rate, usually
.6 or more, than new car loans. However, rates vary widely
between lending companies, so it pays to shop around.
Processing your loan before your car purchase relieves you from
the pressure of signing with the first lender you find. It also
saves you money in lower rates.

Plan On 10% Down

10% is most often required for a used car loan. It signals to
the lender that you are investing in this purchase and are
willing to make payments. A larger down payment can improve
rates and offset low credit scores.

Another way to save money is to choose a short term loan. Since
a used car probably won’t last as long as a new car, five and
three year loans make the most financial sense. You save on
interest costs and can start saving for your next car.

Shopping With A Dealer

Some lenders also offer better rates when you purchase through
a car dealership, even with used cars. You should weigh all
your options when applying for this type of car loan.

Dealerships usually provide a partial warranty for their used
cars; they also charge more. You may be able to find an
excellent deal in the classifieds, but there is a level of risk
with that purchase. However, the difference in interest rates
between these types of loans is more than 1%.

About the Author: View our recommended Used Car Loan
http://www.abcloanguide.com/newcarloan.shtml lenders.

Source: http://www.isnare.com

Credit Card Terminals

The "Credit Card Debt Termination" Scam
By Charles Phelan

"Legally terminate credit card debt! You can be debt-free in
4-6 months!" Advertisements like this are for a new type of
program that has spread via the Internet over the past few
years. It's called "Credit Card Debt Termination," and victims
are paying up to $3,500 for this bogus service. In this
article, I'll review the principles behind this program and
explain exactly why it's a scam to be avoided.

First, let's get our definitions straight. The scheme I'm
describing here should not be confused with Debt Consolidation
or Debt Settlement (also known as Debt Negotiation), both of
which are legitimate and ethical methods for debt resolution.
The easiest way to distinguish the Credit Card Debt Termination
scam from other valid programs is based on the central claim
that you really don't owe any money!

With Debt Consolidation, you pay back all of your debt
balances. With Debt Settlement, you pay back a lower amount
(usually around 50%) while the creditor agrees to forgive the
remaining balance. However, with the bogus Credit Card Debt
Termination program, promoters claim that you won't need to pay
anything at all (except their outrageous fees, naturally). They
make the surprising claim that you can legally wipe away your
debts simply by using their super-duper magic documents. Based
on some legal mumbo-jumbo, the claim is made that you really
didn't borrow any money from your creditors!

In order to understand this scam, a little background is
necessary. Remember the tax protest movement back in the 1970s?
People were claiming that the IRS tax collection system was
unconstitutional, and based on their misinterpretation of the
tax code, they refused to pay taxes. The IRS came down hard on
the tax protest movement, and through the court system, they
blew holes in all the legal arguments put forth by the
protesters. The Credit Card Debt Termination scam is a lot like
the tax protest movement. In fact, among collection
professionals, it's called the "monetary protest movement."

Just like the tax protest movement, there is a common theme
that runs through all of the promotional materials issued by
the monetary protestors. The basic idea is that our Federal
Reserve monetary system and generally accepted accounting
principles (GAAP) do not permit banks to loan out their own
money. Therefore, according to their interpretation, the credit
card banks are the ones running the scam on the American public.

Stay with me here, because the logic is pretty strange. If a
bank cannot lend its own money, how does a credit card bank
extend credit? The claim here is that your credit card
agreement itself becomes a form of money (known as a promissory
note) the moment you sign it. The idea is that the bank
"deposits" your agreement as an asset on their books, and then
any credit you use is offset as a liability against that asset.
In other words, the core concept here is that you literally
borrowed your own money from the credit card bank.

So let's say your balance with ABC Credit Card Bank is $10,000,
which you borrowed against the card to make everyday purchases.
The scam promoters say all you need to do is notify the bank
that you want your original "deposit" back. However, you will
permit the bank to offset the amount you borrowed against the
amount you have on "deposit." Presto! You don't owe the balance
anymore!

Now, as you can imagine, the banks don't take kindly to such
tactics. Many of the consumers using this technique are getting
sued by their creditors. But the scammers have more tricks
available, as if the "smoke and mirrors" financial nonsense
wasn't enough. One of their techniques is the use of bogus
"arbitration" forums. Arbitration is of course a legitimate
system that allows businesses and individuals to resolve
disputes without going to court. What do the scammers do? They
coach people on how to set up a fake arbitration forum, for the
express purpose of making a dispute against their creditors!
Naturally, the creditors will not send representatives to some
non-existent arbitration forum, so the consumer gets to
rubber-stamp their own arbitration award. If they get sued in a
regular court, they present their bogus award to the judge in
the hopes that the creditor's lawsuit will be dismissed.

There are other techniques used by promoters of this scheme,
but the key point to remember is the central claim that your
credit card debt does not really exist. Of course, it's all
nonsense based on a misinterpretation of our monetary system,
and if you step back and think about for a minute, the truth
seems pretty obvious. What these scammers are saying is that
the entire $700 billion credit card industry is operating on an
illegal basis! Even if the legal theory used by the promoters
were true (which it isn't), do you think for a moment the
government would allow this giant industry to go under? That's
exactly what would happen if the promoter's claims were proven
true and used on a widespread basis.

The Federal Trade Commission, which has jurisdiction here,
hasn't stomped on these con artists yet, but it's only a matter
of time. Unfortunately, in the meanwhile, consumers are being
bilked out of millions of dollars for a worthless program that
will only get them into deep trouble with their creditors. If
you are approached by someone offering to wipe away your debts
using this system, I strongly recommend you run in the other
direction while you hold on tightly to your wallet or purse.

Remember, you can eliminate your debts if you take a
disciplined approach to your finances, make a budget and stick
to it, and don't use your credit cards unless you can pay off
new balances in full each month.

Good luck in your financial future!

About the Author: Charles J. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people out there who
don’t realise that, and make all sorts of dangerous mistakes
with their credit cards every day.

Paying Late.

If you don’t set up any kind of automatic payment, then it can
be tempting to just put your credit card bill on a pile and get
to it when you have time. Before you know it, a few weeks have
gone by and you’re late. If you leave it to the deadline, you
might find that the payment won’t get there quickly enough –
it’s not a deadline for sending the money, it’s a deadline for
them receiving it.

Paying late is a big mistake for an awful lot of reasons. You
will almost certainly be charged a late payment fee, and your
late payment will go on your credit report for everyone to see.
You may also find that you lose any good rate you had, and your
debt is automatically thrown onto the very worst rate the
company offers.

To avoid late payment, you should always post your payment a
long time before the due date (at least a week). If you’ve left
it to the last minute, phone up and try to pay that way.

Being Taken in By Rewards.

It is never, ever worth getting a higher-interest card simply
because it offers some kind of loyalty points, flight miles or
whatever. Even if it offers a cash reward, it is unlikely to be
more than you would pay in extra interest – after all, why would
they give you free money? All ‘rewards’ do is pay you off with
your own money to make you feel like you’re getting something
for nothing. You’re not.

Collecting Cards.

Seeing some people opening their wallet or bag is a scary
experience. It looks like they have about a hundred credit
cards in there, some of which they haven’t used in years. They
have trouble keeping track of all the different cards, balances
and interest rates. Don’t be one of these people. You should
limit yourself to a maximum of three cards at a time – any more
starts to make you look over-committed in your credit report,
and could get you turned down for a bigger loan.

Maxing Them Out.

Your limit is just that: a limit, not a minimum! Whatever you
do, don’t get a card and immediately spend your whole limit.
This looks very bad. It is better to spend about halfway
regularly and pay it back. Wait for the company to increase
your limit (which they quickly will), and then you’ll get that
extra money without the stigma of having a maxed-out card.

Not Reading the Terms and Conditions.

Finally, as ever, don’t sign anything you haven’t read! I know
it’s hard going and you’re busy and all, but if you can’t
manage to read the terms and conditions then you shouldn’t get
the card. Pay special attention to any future increases in
rates, and what kind of fees you can be charged.

About the Author: Sandra is a credit advisor who has helped
hundreds regain their credit scores to respectable levels.

Sometimes two, three, or
four at a time. Credit card offers. The credit card industry is
highly competitive and banks and other financial institutions
are constantly sending out mass mailings in an attempt to lure
potential customers to switch credit card providers.

And while it is generally not advisable to regularly open new
credit accounts, there are times when doing so can be
advantageous. But how do you compare all of the credit card
offers to know that you are choosing the right credit card?
There are a few things that you should compare and consider
before making your choice.

The interest rate. Obviously the higher the interest rate, the
more you will pay in interest charges. So the lower the rate
the better. Many cards now offer zero-percent introductory
rates for periods of up to a year. Transferring a balance to a
card like this can be an effective way to pay down your debt
quickly. But you have to read the fine print.

Credit card companies usually apply your payment to the debt
with the highest interest rate first. So if your interest rate
on purchases is 12 percent, your payment will be applied to
that balance until it is paid off and then you will begin
paying off the zero-percent portion. Because of this policy,
many people realize little savings in transferring their
balance to a zero-percent card. In order to take full advantage
of the policy, you should not make any purchases on the
zero-percent card. This will ensure that the balance will be
reduced as much as possible before the introductory offer ends.

Reward programs are great ways to gain prizes or cash back by
making purchases. Some cards will actually give you a small
percentage (about one or two percent) of your purchases back as
cash. Others let you earn points that can be redeemed for all
sorts of merchandise, airline tickets, or gift certificates.
Reward programs are a great bonus, as long as you are not
paying extra for it. A higher interest rate will quickly
eliminate any savings you receive through the reward program.

Annual Fees or Service Charges. I have never used a credit card
that charges any kind of annual fee. It just makes no sense to
me. There are so many credit card companies out there competing
for my business, why should I have to pay for the privilege of
using a particular card. Even if the card offers frequent-flyer
miles or cash back, the annual fee will reduce or even eliminate
the benefit gained. Shop around and you can find a card just as
good with no annual fee.

Keep these 3 things in mind when you are comparing the credit
offer and you can be confident that you are choosing the right
credit card.

About the Author: Mike Collins is the owner of
http://www.saving-money-and-living-debt-free.com, a friendly
guide to saving money, making extra money, and getting out of
debt.

Source: http://www.isnare.com

Credit Card Terminals

Credit Card Merchant Services
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alison_Cole]Alison Cole

What a large number of people do not know is that if you have a credit card you cannot simply utilize it any shop as you wish. Not every mall or shop owner is in a position to accept your credit card. The shopkeepers and mall owners must be able to provide what is known as credit card merchant services. Only then can they receive any cash from you in the form of credit cards. The primary requirement that for a shopkeeper to be able to provide credit card merchant services is that he must be trading for a minimum of two years.

In current times, it is of paramount importance to be able to provide credit card merchant services and thus accept credit cards. More often than not customers today make their purchases with the use of credit cards. As a result if you cannot accept credit card transactions, more than a few of your customers will choose to make their purchases elsewhere. Also, sometimes, in case of certain unforeseen situations, your customer could run out of cash and thus may wish to use a credit card instead. It is always best for your business if you are able to provide such customers with the facility of credit card merchant services.

Once you realize how crucial a credit card merchant service is to your business setup, you need to think about what all credit cards you actually wish to accept. There are a wide variety of the forms of credit cards that you can accept from your customers. These could be perhaps a block acceptance of Visa, Switch, Mastercard, Solo, JCB and also Connect. Or you could accept American Express or then Diners Club and various other specialist offerings. The process for application would be such that you could consider applying for a status at whichever bank you hold an account at. This bank will prove to be of considerable help to you unless and until it is a small, specialist banks that can offer interest but much fewer services on business accounts.

It can take over your life. If you have a debt problem
the earlier it is handled and dealt with, the less likely it’ll
turn into a crisis, and the more money you’ll save in the
fullness of time.

The very nature of borrowing means that interest increases over
time and if it isn’t dealt with promptly, it can spiral out of
control and land you into trouble. Particularly with credit
cards, when interest payments are large, and a minimum payment
offers a seemingly manageable solution; what is actually
happening is this: the balance is being eroded like the sea
bites away at the shore. It’ll disappear into the ocean
eventually, but might take many years to do so. What you need
is a more radical approach, where chunks of debt are eaten away
each month.

Being in debt can be a stressful time. Many people are scared
to tell husbands, wives, friends – anyone. There’s a kind of
stigma attached to the problem, but there is always a way out.

Traditional debt advice proscribes borrowing your way out of a
problem. Yet this ignores the reality of most debts. A more
advisable and realistic approach would be to never borrow more
to get out of debt trouble. If it is possible to borrow more
cheaply elsewhere to replace existing borrowing and consolidate
your debt, then this is an eminently sensible approach.

The first step should always be to work out your monthly
outgoings and try and trim down your spending on luxuries and
things you can do without. This doesn’t mean you have to live
the life of a monk and forgo all worldly pleasures! But by
adopting sensible spending patterns you can redirect some of
your monthly income into paying off your outstanding balances.
Always keep at the front of your mind the fact that the longer
the debt smolders away, the more you spend in interest
payments.

Those with big debts may save thousands a year in interest by
reconsidering their borrowing commitments. Do this in three
ways:

i) Lower the interest if possible by moving your debts to
reduce the interest cost.
ii) Pay the worst first: prioritize paying off the highest
interest rate debts first
iii) Utilize any free debt advice there is. A non-commercial
agency will give you good advice, focus you on your priorities,
and place any problems in context. Things may not be as bad as
they first seem.

Of course, there’s other basic, practicable things you can do
on your own. It's incredibly important to get on top of credit
card debts as soon as possible. Don't default or miss payments.
Let the credit card company know if you are going to be unable
to pay – it’s always better to talk to them than putting your
head in the sand.

If things aren’t that bad, there’s a variety of easy strategies
you can implement that will help ease things for you. Consider a
credit card balance transfer to a lender offering a lower rate
of APR. This will mean you spend less on interest payments each
month and start to attack the overall balance with real venom.

You could take out an unsecured loan as a way of consolidating
your debt. Personal loans can give you a consistent cheap debt,
and as you must make the repayments each month, it helps provide
structure to your repayments. Those with poorer credit scores
might not always get decent rates, but it’s still often a
cheaper option than paying back credit card debt each month,
and overall a faster method of repayment.

If you have them, use savings: The interest paid on savings is
usually far less than interest charged on borrowing, so paying
off debts with savings makes eminent sense. Even if you think
of your savings as an ‘emergency cash fund’ or money for the
future, better to fall back on it in the short term and pay it
back later, than paying interest to a credit card company so
that money for some far flung eventuality is at your disposal.

It’s worth mentioning that for many people, credit cards
provide sensible short term, flexible lending, that’s both
cheap and convenient. You should always try and proceed
cautiously, but credit card debt woes are not an inevitable
consequence of taking them out. Tens of millions of Americans
use credit cards cheaply and conveniently every year.

For those who feel they are in trouble, don’t feel stigmatized
by your debt woes and don’t pretend they’re not there. Help is
at hand should you seek it, and a solution is never far away.

About the Author: Ethan Hunter is the author of many credit
related articles. Overall business successes can sometimes hinge on that business' ability to accept transactions over the internet. In addition, the internet can help turn a local company into an international company and open up new avenues of business.

However, creating an e-commerce website does not automatically mean website sales. In a future article I will focus more on the aspects of actually operating an e-commerce website, but for now, I will cover the basics that will answer most questions for businesses who are considering the move to selling online.

First Steps

Let's assume that your business already has a professionally designed website. We usually ask new clients with existing websites who would like to start selling on the internet a series of questions to help determine the best solution for selling online:

Who is your target audience?

It is important to know who your customers are when taking into consideration the design of your e-commerce website.

What type of web hosting do you currently have?

The type of hosting can determine what type of programming is used on your website. Also, if you do not have sufficient resources to have an e-commerce website, then it is important to know this in advance so that we may suggest a suitable host for a client's needs.

How many products are you going to be selling?

Sometimes a client may only have a handful of products, in which case, a shopping cart (either pre-developed or custom) is not necessarily the best solution.

What type of special features would you like your shopping cart to have (example: coupons, affiliate program, downloadable goods, etc.)?

This is quite possibly the most important question because the answers to our special e-commerce website pre-development survey are usually the basis for understanding the specifics of a client's needs and for determining the price and time necessary to complete the project.

Explaining E-commerce

The next step in the process usually involves explaining to the client exactly how e-commerce works on the web. Below is a brief explanation of the technology behind the process and what is necessary to sell items on the internet.

The Process

Once a customer visits an e-commerce websites, adds product to their cart, and then clicks to check out, it official begins the transaction of the sale. Programming in the shopping cart enables the credit card information to be sent to what is called a payment gateway. The payment gateway's sole purpose is to offer a secure way to pass this information through the merchant account and on to the credit card processing bank. The processing bank sends the information to the customer's credit card issuer and the transaction is either approved or declined. From there, the results of the transaction are relayed back to the payment gateway where they are stored and sent to both the customer and merchant for verification. At this stage, the shopping cart usually issues a receipt to the customer and a notification of the order to the business.

A Merchant Account

The first thing a business needs in order to accept credit cards online is a merchant account. The merchant account is usually a business back account that is either set up through a Merchant Service Provider (for example, http://www.cardservice.com) or through your regular bank. When a transaction is approved on your website, the merchant account provider will deposit the funds in an account such as your business checking account.

A Payment Gateway

A payment gateway is the online terminal for encrypting and sending transaction information back and forth between your website, the merchant account and to the processing bank. One of the most popular gateways is http://www.authorize.net Most merchant account providers can also sell you a payment gateway.

A Secure Certificate (SSL)

A secure certificate is a necessity when running online transactions as it provides your customers with a secure webpage in order to enter their personal and credit card information before it is sent through the gateway. How can you tell you are on a secure order page? Simply look for a small lock symbol at the top of your browser next to the website address and https:// before the web address.

Shopping Cart Systems

Through discussing all of the details of a proposed e-commerce business website, we can help our clients determine what the best shopping cart solution is; whether it is a pre-developed cart, or a new custom programmed cart. We go through an extensive interview process to make sure each e-commerce solutions is custom tailored to the client's needs.

In Conclusion

I hope this information will be helpful to businesses that are just starting out with e-commerce, but remember, these are only the first initial steps to setting up your website to sell online. In a future article I will cover what happens after your internet store is "live", how you will be able to perform updates to your store on your own, and some tips on how to market your site and products more effectively.

Sherry Holub received her degree in design from UCLA in 1995. The selection of a phone system can either bring a business closer to its customers and clients or, cause confusion and chaos amongst all that use or interact with it.

It is therefore essential that you choose the right phone system for your business needs. The telephone is quite often the fastest and easiest way to reach customers and clients. It should also be the fastest and easiest way for them to reach you. It should be flexible enough to be able to cover all of your company’s needs and handle all calls appropriately. The last thing any business wants is for its important business callers and customers to be routed incorrectly, disconnected, or faced with a long list of confusing automated options.

There are lots of factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing a new business telephone system. Below are a few of the main ones:

1. You need enough capacity to fulfil your current business needs.

2. Assess your potential future growth and select a compatible phone system accordingly.

3. Ensure compatibility with any equipment you already own (headsets, handsets, conferencing equipment, cabling etc).

4. What features does your business phone system need to incorporate?

Fulfilling all the factors above and any more you can think of can be an expensive challenge for any business. The aim of this guide is to help you understand what decisions you need to make in order to choose the right phone system for your business.

Types of business phone system

There are three major types of phone system available: KSU-Less phones, Key systems and Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems. Which type of phone system you choose will depend on the amount of extensions you require and the features your telephone system needs to have installed.

KSU-Less systems

KSU-Less systems are usually more suited to companies that typically have less than ten employees, or require less than ten extensions. That isn’t to say that all companies requiring less than ten phone extensions can make do with a KSU-Less system. It may be that you require more features which are only available through either a PBX or Key phone system.

Requiring a far lower initial investment than the other types of business phone systems, KSU-Less phones are specifically designed to include many of the features usually only available through the implementation of a full small business phone system.

KSU-Less systems can be easily unplugged and relocated, because they are not permanently wired into your office. This portability allows you to treat a KSU-Less phone system, much the same as any business machine, rather than a lost permanent investment.

You will need to ensure that any KSU-Less system you choose is compatible not only with the type of wiring you have in your office, but also with any accessories you may already have, such as: headsets, answering & fax machines and modems. Because KSU-Less phone systems are relatively inexpensive, they are not usually sold, installed, or maintained by telecoms vendors.

All of this means, you have to go out there and do not only the shopping yourself but, also the installation and support. This is one of the two major drawbacks of KSU-Less systems. The last thing any business needs is to be concerned with the reliability and maintenance of its phone system. Another drawback of KSU-Less systems is that they are more prone to something known as “crosstalk”. This is where separate conversations may blend into each other. With PBX, Key systems and Hybrid systems falling in price, it sometimes makes more sense to invest in a full business phone system, rather than become susceptible to the risks of a KSU-Less system.

Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems

If your business typically requires more than forty extensions, or your needs dictate you need advanced functions from your business phone system, then PBX systems are often the solution. PBX systems used to be extremely expensive and only affordable by huge corporations with hundreds of extensions. Though this is still the case for larger installations, the development of the technology required has progressed to the point where a powerful, fully functional PBX office phone system for a small business is able to fit on the top of a desk.

Nearly all these compact PBX phone systems come with all the features you might want as standard. You pay a premium for the programmability and flexibility that a PBX offers, but in most cases the price difference is not as much as you may imagine between that of a less flexible phone system.

Key Systems

Key phone systems are more typical in businesses that require five to forty extensions. This type of phone system uses a central control unit called the Key System Unit (KSU) to provide features and functions that are not available using ordinary phones. An example of this is: key systems using a KSU allow one extension to call another in house extension, and prevents any other users from picking up a line that is already in use. Key systems usually come as standard with most features any business would expect, but in some cases they are often less flexible than a PBX phone system.

PBX & Key Systems (hybrids)

Though Key and PBX systems have some different technical features, these differences have become somewhat blurred over the past couple of years. Many Key systems now offer features that were once only available to those who chose to install a full PBX phone system. Some systems also operate internally as either a PBX or Key system depending on the software installed. Sometime these systems are often referred to as “Hybrid” phone systems.

Installation & maintenance of PBX and Key phone systems

PBX and Key phone systems require installation by fully trained and qualified telecoms engineers. All outside and inside lines must connect to the PBX or KSU cabinet. The installation and maintenance of one of these types of phone system can be just as expensive as the phone system itself. In many cases you may be able to use the existing phone lines available in your office, but unless the phones you have been using are relatively new, they may not be compatible with your new system, requiring you to purchase new handsets as well as the system itself.

The Right Size System

It is important that when buying a new business telephone system, that you know your requirements in advance. Knowing what features need to be included with your new telephone system will stand you in good stead when it comes to negotiating with potential suppliers. When considering buying a new telephone system for your business, there are two major factors that determine the size of the system you require:

Lines. These are sometimes called trunks. The number of lines a system has denotes the number of outside lines being used by a company.

Extensions. Most extensions will be made up of handsets. Though any equipment that requires a phone line is classed as an extension. This includes fax machines, modems, and credit card equipment etc.

It is important that you make a list of all the extensions and lines you may need for your new phone system. Not forgetting some users may need more than one line and multiple extensions.

With key systems, the size of a phone system is indicated as a combination of both lines and extensions. For example a system that has 10 lines and 30 extensions will be shown as a 10 x 30 system.

With PBX phone systems, size is defined as a combination of lines and extensions, called “Ports”. The number of “Ports” is the maximum number of connections that can be made to the phone system. These include outside lines and inside extensions, as well as any other telephone system accessories.

When planning for a new business phone system, you should take into account the future expansion of your company, by foreseeing any extra needs at an early stage. Even if your current telephone system is handling calls well for the time being, this may not be the case when any future expansion or improvements are fully implemented. A good business phone system should be able to handle expansion easily and in a cost effective manor. PBX phone systems allow you to expand their capabilities, by adding new expansion cards, thus increasing the number of ports available for use. A few key systems can be expanded by the addition of another cabinet that is identical to the first.

When planning your new system it is important that you enquire about the potential cost for the addition of more extensions or ports. It is important that when choosing a new business phone system, you ensure expansion will come not only easily but as affordable as possible for your company.

Telephone System Dealers and Installers

Finding a good reliable dealer is the most important part of buying a new business phone system. A good reputable dealer will not only be able to sell you the system you require, but will offer excellent, guaranteed installation and service as well as always be on hand to answer any questions you have when problems arise. To put it simply they will be there to hold your hand and guide you through the process, from the planning and selection of a suitable system, to the implementation of you new system and training of staff. Any potential supplier will be more than happy to talk to you about any aspect of a new business phone system, and offer testimonials as to the quality of their systems and installation service.

It is not uncommon for buyers to require a demonstration of potential new phone systems. Any reputable dealer will be more than happy to offer a full demonstration of any phone system they supply. It is better for the dealer to visit your site, that way they can get a proper view of your existing system and evaluate your future communication requirements and cabling needs.

Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) specify how quickly a dealer responds to a problem with your phone system. A good dealer will offer a range of SLA’s to cater for most business needs and budgets. Expect to pay more if your business requires 24/7 support or response times shorter than normal.

Below are some questions that you could ask a dealer when looking for a supplier of a business phone system:

1. Can I have a system demonstration?

2. Who will install the system and cabling?

3. What range of Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) do they offer?

4. Who will provide system training and what are the costs?

5. Can the dealer provide remote maintenance facilities?

6. What guarantees and warranties do they offer?

Check List

1. Decide which type of phone system best suits your businesses needs.

2. Plan the size of your new system by evaluating the amount of lines and extensions you require. Don’t forget to plan for any future expansion.

3. Decide what extra features you might require from you new business phone system (voicemail, door phones, etc).

4. Contact a few reputable dealers.

5. Arrange for a demonstration of suitable phone systems.

6. Work with your chosen dealer to select and purchase the correct system for your business.

7. Don’t forget to sort suitable training and an adequate service level agreement.

Final

The purchase and installation of the correct telephone system for your business is a very important decision. It is imperative that you get it right first time, as the functionality and prosperity of you business could heavily depend upon it. They are very commonly used in retail stores and restaurants. Most merchant credit card terminals accept all major credit, debit, and private-label cards offering low-cost credit card authorization, check guarantee, and data capture for a range of retail applications.

A terminal to process credit cards is a great investment to your business. Most merchant credit card terminals support Internet-based services such as e-mail, electronic signature, interactive electronic coupons, onscreen advertising, cash management reporting, and e-commerce. They make transactions more convenient, faster, and accurate for both customers and merchants.

At first, merchant credit card processing terminals verify your customer's card information. Then they withdraw money for the purchase from the customer?s account and deposit it directly into your merchant account. The most important units of merchant credit card terminals are card readers with a small keypad and display. They require power supply and can communicate through a telephone line. Modern terminals are powered by batteries and can communicate wireless or over the Internet. They come in several sizes and prices.

There are many types of merchant credit card terminals: traditional terminals (with or without printers), wireless terminals, and virtual or software-based terminals. Merchants with a permanent place of business need a basic card reader terminal. In this case, the terminal is placed right on the counter where all transactions take place. For businesses that constantly change locations, a wireless credit card processing terminal is a good choice. It is suitable for merchants who are always on the go.

Millions of merchant credit card terminals ship annually and the majority have the same basic functions and features. It can only be used in combination with a merchant account that processes credit card transactions. Businesses already using credit card terminals need to buy extra equipments to maintain additional services such as debit card transactions and issuing and accepting gift cards. A number of terminals also support additional forms of payment such as electronic bank transfers and phone cards.

Credit Card Terminals provides detailed information on Credit Card Terminals, Credit Card Terminal Systems, Wireless Credit Card Terminals, Credit Card Processing Terminals and more. Credit Card Terminals is affiliated with Credit Card Processing Software.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Kent_Pinkerton
http://EzineArticles.com/?Merchant-Credit-Card-Terminals&id=353177

Credit Card Terminals

How To Get A Low Interest Credit Card
By Tom Coleman

Consumers often have the first credit card that they ever
applied for, never really analizing how the interest rate
affects their payments, but many other options exist and can
help consumers decrease their payments and achieve financial
stability.

With interest rates on some credit cards rising to over 23%,
even low balance credit card debt can be crippling. One of the
first research elements a prospective borrower should look at
is the interest rate on transferred debt. This interest rate is
often lower than the usual interest rate for the credit card,
and can be an especially good deal for borrowers who have debt
already. Another element to consider is the interest rate on
new purchases – this rate will be the main concern in the years
to come, as this new credit card will probably become the most
heavily used. Borrowers often worry about annual fees, but
these are often temporary. Getting a credit card with low
interest rates will save a borrower significant sums, usually
much more than the annual fee. Plus, once good credit is
established, the annual fee may later be waived.

Another interest rate will usually apply, as well – the rate
for cash advances. Cash advances are usually limited to a
couple hundred dollars, but credit card companies often insist
that when paying back the balance, the credit portion must be
paid back first, then the portion that the cash advance applies
to. So if you are going to keep a balance on your credit card,
be aware that cash advance interest rates are higher than the
regular interest rates. Cash advances can be incredibly helpful
in emergencies, though, when a credit card cannot be used.

Visa and MasterCard are by far the most commonly accepted
credit cards, so less commonly used cards such as American
Express and Discover often offer special rates for new
customers. These rates are worth attention, even if you think
that you may not be able to use the card as easily as your
previous credit cards, because transferring the balance to
these new cards to obtain the lower interest rate may
significantly lower your payments. While your AmEx or Discover
Card may not be accepted as often, they can be a good tool to
achieving your financial goals.

Even less commonly used are credit cards that are store
specific, such as gas cards or department store cards, but
these cards can offer incredible deals on interest rates. They
rely on the fact that consumers will often switch their
spending patterns to the new gas station or store, and this
increased revenue makes up for the lower interest rates. A
slight change in your habits, such as consistently using the
new credit card at the new gas station, can lower payments and
improve credit scores.

Researching new credit cards can seem daunting, but by
comparing the four main factors, which are the regular interest
rate, the rate on transferred balance, the rate on cash
advances, and the annual fee, you can reduce your credit card
payments significantly.

About the Author: The author runs the finance website
http://www.pawninfo.com about short-term loans and payday
loans, and any or all of this article may be reproduced in any
form as long as there is a link to the website. Over the past few years I have tried just about every possible system out there to make money online, from using EBay to actually trying to create my own product. The results? Nada, nothing, zilch! Thousands of dollars latter I found myself just giving up. I received enough information to make my eyes bleed and head throb. I subscribed to so many guru lists that I was forced to create alternate email addresses just to get rid of all the spam.

Every new product that came out generated hundreds of emails to me from dozens of so-called experts selling it to me. I took me a little while to realize that the only people making the money were the guys that took other peoples info, repackaged it and sold it to idiots like me! Can you say tech dummy? That is me in a nutshell. I am a banker, accountant, and mortgage loan officer. I am also a dreamer like you. I want the best that life offers. Give me the tools to achieve my dreams and I will run with them. I have absolutely no ability to absorb all of the tricks, techniques and ideas sent to me. It is all just over my head.

I have never been one to give up, so I began to focus on just one area. Affiliate Marketing became my vehicle to creating wealth. I signed up with click bank and joined over 30 different programs. I made a few dollars but realized that I was not capturing the information that I needed to build a long term income stream. Short term profits were okay, but they did not last and required constant work to maintain. By sending my customers to an affiliate product web site, I was basically giving them my customers forever. I was missing the opportunity to market other products to them in the future.

Eventually I stumbled upon an amazing internet marketer, who seemed to be able to focus his teachings like a laser beam into my brain. He recommended a product that had all of the elements I needed. The name of the program is Simple Money Machines. Simple Money Machines may not be what you need if you are a total technology nerd. If you are tech savvy, like me, then this could be your ticket to financial freedom!

Simple Money Machines is a new platform that allows someone with no technological abilities what-so-ever to set up a complete online business. You do not need to host an account, no software to purchase and learn, no worrying about back ups and no expensive testing required. When you invest this much money in this rather essential equipment, it is quite natural to want to properly maintain the equipment and extend its useful life for as long as possible.

One of the best ways to prevent your credit card terminals from breaking down prematurely is to clean them periodically.

The presence of dust, crumbs, and paper lint can cause built-in printers and stripe readers to become clogged making card reading devices difficult or impossible to use properly. A simple $2 investment in a can of compressed air, however, can help you quickly and easily clean your terminals, helping them last for up to five years without missing a beat.

When you buy new equipment of any kind for your business it is essential that you stay in the habit of maintaining it, and remind your employees to do the same.

Another, perhaps less obvious way to ensure the longevity of your card reading equipment is to buy a terminals that use integrated flash memory to store the software that runs them. Flash memory makes it easy to download and install system updates, preventing software advances and security vulnerabilities from rendering your devices obsolete.

About the Author:
Jeremy Maddock is a successful web-based freelancer, who writes articles about business financial products and other corporate products.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jeremy_Maddock
http://EzineArticles.com/?How-to-Maintain-Credit-Card-Terminals&id=297856

Credit Card Terminals

Mobile Credit Card Processing Equipment
By Thomas Morva

In today's business environment, credit card processing equipment is an essential tool for completing an online transaction. Compared to traditional credit card processing services, mobile credit card processing ensures faster payment, increases overall sales and credibility, and saves a lot of money. A well maintained mobile credit card processing equipment is a must for such transactions. Mobile credit card machines are useful for those merchants who like to take their business to the customers. The functioning of a mobile credit card machine is simple. By swiping the customer's credit card through the mobile credit card processing equipment, all the transaction processes are done automatically in real time. When the merchant gets the authorization, a printed receipt is given to the customer.

Mobile credit card processing equipment helps in accepting payments through online credit cards as well as by telephone. With its state-of-the-art technology, mobile credit card processing equipment provides a secure payment gateway that enables fraud screening and also real time reporting of every transaction. For an online transaction, only a virtual terminal is needed. This enables you to get all the services through the Internet.

Mobile credit card processing equipment has certain added advantages when compared to traditional wireless merchant accounts. They include low monthly charges, low processing fee and no monthly minimum processing charge. Today, the wireless mobile credit card processing equipment is the latest in convenience and portability.

Many business concerns sign a contract with mobile credit card processing equipment companies for their services. These contracts might be for 2 to 5 years, a fact which is often unknown to the firm. Consequently, if a firm needs to terminate a contract, a cancellation fee is charged by these companies. So care should be while choosing the services of such companies.

Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. This represents
good news for buyers looking to get a property, however it
stands in stark contrast to findings from the Council of
Mortgage Lenders (CML) ( http://www.cml.org.uk/ ) showing that
the number of homes being repossessed has risen for the first
time in seven years, from 3,070 six months ago up to 4,640 for
the first half of 2005.

The sharp rise in home repossession applications by lenders
adds to growing concerns that consumers are struggling with
debt. Ed Stansfield of Capital Economics, said, "Today's
figures show that for a small but growing minority of borrowers
levels of debt have become a problem, despite historically low
interest rates.” These figures for repossessions were still,
according to the CML, "extremely low" compared with the early
1990s; however adverse credit, arrears and repossessions look
set to rise.

Richard Brown, Chief Executive of personal finance comparison
site Moneynet ( http://www.moneynet.co.uk ) is disappointed to
recently see, in light of a possible base rate cut, which would
help to ease the burden of mortgage debt within the housing
market that, “many lenders are taking this opportunity to
increase their margins at the expense of their loyal savers by
reducing their fixed savings rates by more than the mortgage
rates”.

The personal debt problems of the nation have also not been
helped by the punitive charging activities of several of the
major lenders.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) ( http://www.oft.gov.uk/ ) has
warned eight of the major credit card firms regarding their
activities towards customers who miss payment deadlines or
exceed credit limits, and ordered them to reduce their
“excessive” and "disproportionately high" charges, usually in
excess of £20 per transgression, to consumers or face being
taken to court.

There are currently 30.6 million people in the UK possessing at
least one credit card, with a total of almost £60 billion owed
on them.

The credit card firms have defended the need for late payment
charges claiming that their use was fair, "Only a very small
proportion of customers attract a default charge and as a
responsible lender we must have a process in place to manage
late payments," a spokeswoman for RBS maintained. Which? have
determined that as many as one in four cardholders have been
subject to some form of default charge being imposed on them
within the past six months. With the number of people accruing
charges, the credit firms have admitted they are able to make
£400 million a year from default charges alone, and Barclaycard
has admitted that 43 per cent of its operating income is
generated from these fees.

The OFT have said that the sum being charged by companies is
far in excess of the actual costs to the card firms, for late
payment. "The levels of the default charges imposed by the
credit card companies need to be reduced in order to be fair".

Which? have seen the announcement by the OFT over the credit
card penalty charges not being fair, and the threats of court
action as, “great news”, but also wants other situations where
banks hit customers with unfair charges to also be looked into.

The Chief Executive of Money Advice Scotland, Yvonne Gallacher,
said of the prospect of reduced credit card fees: "This would
make a big difference to the thousands of low-income credit
cardholders who struggle to pay off these fees and charges."

Moneynet is not so optimistic for consumers, and advises for
caution following the OFT announcement, warning that credit
card companies may be looking to increase their profits via
alternative ‘stealth’ charges, “We are concerned that credit
card providers may simply attempt to recoup their lost income
via higher charges for all…Moneynet recommends credit card
customers consider their options before taking out a card -and
take into account all charges as well as the headline interest
rate”, said Richard Brown.

Some moves seem to be getting made to help those most at risk,
but these measures seem to be mainly driven by increased levels
of consumer dissatisfaction, and while house prices still look
expensive compared with incomes, the worst off may not feel a
huge change in their circumstances for some time to come.

About the Author: Richard lives in Edinburgh, occasionally
writing for the personal finance blog Cashzilla (
http://cashzilla.blogspot.com/ ), and staring out the office
window when he should be working.

Source: http://www.isnare.com

Credit Card Terminals

Credit Card Is Adding The Silver Lining To Your Pocket
By Sarah Jones

In the new millennium plastic money or credit cards has
rendered a new zing factor to your pocket. This has not only
made you economically more flexible but subsequently added
glamour to your financial image as well. No more bulging out
hip pockets with excess of liquid cash. Instead, the slimmer
your pocket; the smarter you look. But behind all these
inviting attributes of credit cards there seems to be a trap
laid out for people who are impulsive and careless
(http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/avoidcardtraps.html)

The usage of credit cards have been on the highest spree this
decade and along with the usage, the debt rates has also
somersaulted sky high. Majority of the citizens of the U.S. owe
thousands of dollars as credit card bills. While gross dollar
volume on bank credit cards has increased 2.5 times since 1994,
the average transaction has increased about 16% over the past
decade. The average transaction on a general purpose credit
card, carrying the VISA, MasterCard, American Express, or
Discover brand, is now approaching $102, compared to $87 in
1994.

23rd Dec. 2004 is termed as Black Thursday and is poised to be
a voluminous day in credit card usage in 2004. On this day
Americans have used credit and debit cards to pay for nearly
$12 billion. This computes to an average of more than $8
million per minute; however it could easily top $20 million per
minute during peak hours.

In the present era credit card debt carried by an average
American is about $8,562 (Approx.). The total U.S. credit card
debt in the first quarter of 2002 was approximately $60 billion
(Approx.). Total finance charges Americans paid in 2001is $50
billion (Approx.).

Recently, the New York Times examined how the use of credit has
taken off dramatically in the United States since 1990. While
the number of people holding charge cards grew about 75
percent. This went up from 82 million in 1990 to 144 million in
2003 and the amount they charged during that period grew by a
much larger percentage. It is approximately 350 percent, from
$338 billion to $1.5 trillion.

Nellie Mae, the nation’s largest maker of student loans says
that the average undergraduate student has $2,200 in credit
card debt. That figure jumps to $5,800 for graduate students.
David Sandor, a vice president at Visa USA, says that only 54
percent of college students pay off their credit card balances
every month.

The average credit card interest rate is around 18.9%.
Approximately half of all credit card holders pay only their
minimum monthly requirements. There are a total of 1.2 billion
credit and retail cards in North America. The number of credit
card holders who declared bankruptcy last year was a huge 1.3
million.

Credit cards have undoubtedly given us better mileage in
handling our finance; it has made us mobile and flexible in
cash handling. But it is extremely important to make proper
utilization of this plastic money. There lies a big black
trench of debts if you use it recklessly. These slim plastic
cards can often be the cause of bulk debts if one is impulsive
or unwise.

For better insight in this topic please view:
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/card-starter.html
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/card-counseling.html

About the Author: Sarah Jones is a contributing writer to
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com And is currently working
on a special section in the site called do it yourself where
you can eliminate your debts and become debt free...

Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. Credit cards are the most common method of payment by customers today in all types of stores, particularly retail and restaurant. Because of this, it is vital that your business is up to date with a quality credit card terminal. There are several basic forms of terminals, but they all fall under three different categories.

The first kind of credit card terminal is the traditional terminal. The most basic traditional terminal includes a magnetic stripe reader, a keypad to enter prices and other information, and a small display. Each terminal has its own display style, which allows you to pick and choose to meet your needs. The larger the display, the easier it will be for you to see the display. Another feature that is common amongst most new traditional terminals is a backlit display, which allows you to see the display in low light settings.

There are two different kinds of printers you can choose from for your traditional terminal, a built-in printer or a separate unit. It is often easier to handle one machine altogether, making the built-in printer more popular. However, the main thing to consider with the printer is its price, speed and reliability.

The next kind of credit card terminal is the wireless terminal. Wireless terminals are very convenient for businesses with temporary locations, taxi drivers and large lot businesses because of its ability to be moved. However, you should really think about whether it is a necessity to have a wireless terminal, because they are more expensive.

Other things that should be considered when selecting a wireless terminal include battery life, the range of the terminal, weight, and its shock resistance. The shock resistance is vital because you have to assume that any terminal you purchase will be dropped from time to time.

The last kind of credit card terminal is virtual terminals. If you are looking for a terminal to use for over the phone or an internet business, this is the kind for you. This allows you to have a terminal without actually having a physical terminal in your presence. Your merchant account that is required should be able to provide you with the necessary software to handle the transactions. All you have to do is type in the credit card number and the software will handle the authorization for you.

While there are several different models and forms of credit card terminals to choose from, they all fall under the three categories mentioned above. The most pricey terminals are going to be the wireless terminal and virtual terminal, but the traditional terminal has its benefits as well. Make sure to do the necessary research to find the best credit card terminal for your business.

For more information about Jim Saka or to find out how your business can can benefit from accepting credit cards online or at a place of business visit United Bank Card's merchant account services websites.

Copyright (c) 2007 Jim Saka

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jim_Saka
http://EzineArticles.com/?The-Three-Categories-Of-Credit-Card-Terminals&id=412639

Credit Card Terminals

Boosting Your Credit Score To Get The Best Credit Card Deal
By Ethan Hunter

Making Your Credit Rating Work For You

One of the basics of getting the most competitive credit card
deal in the market is to ensure you have the best credit record
possible. Few of us are lucky enough to be earning a six-figure
salary, and many people are likely to have other financial
undertakings that a potential lender will want to take into
account. None of this, however, should preclude you from
getting a top bracket credit rating. Getting a credit score of
700+ may be beyond some consumers, but lifting your credit
rating to a point at which lenders will furnish you with some
of their best deals is not an insurmountable task.

It can be a stressful time applying for a new line of credit.
Many consumers get upset when applying for a new credit card
when they find out their credit score is low, and they have
poor credit.

A lower credit score can impact the amount of money that
financial institutions will lend you. It can also impact on the
rate of interest at which you borrow. In some cases, the
difference between having an excellent credit rating and a poor
one could be getting a 0% deal on your credit card, and paying
an APR that touches 30%. Sometimes financial institutions won’t
even lend you a dime, based on a low credit score.

A variety of factors can impact on your credit score. Generally
speaking, lenders love stability more than anything else. Paying
amounts owed on time is but one of many variables. It could be
that you’ve lived in more than one address over the preceding
three years; or having borrowings with a variety of
institutions. It could even be down to the fact that you’ve got
too much credit already at your disposal.

But just what goes into your credit score? A report by the
analytics experts Fair Issac recently broke credit scoring down
into five categories and assessed their importance on the final
rating.

Most important was how you had paid you bills in the past with
the most emphasis on recent activity. Naturally, paying all
your bills on time is good; paying them consistently late is
bad. Having accounts that were sent to collection agencies is
even worse, though nowhere near as bad as declaring bankruptcy.
Paying your bills in a timely and consistent manner contributed
to 35 percent of the score.

Next most important was the amount of money you owe and the
amount of available credit at your disposal. The assessment of
outstanding debt fell into several categories, and included
credit cards, car loans, mortgages, home equity lines, and so
on. Also given consideration was the total amount of credit
available. If a customer has 10 credit cards that each have
$10,000 credit limits, that totals $100,000 of available
credit. Generally speaking, people who have a lot of credit
available tend to use it. This makes them a less attractive
credit risk. This amounts to 30 per cent of the total credit
score.

Also impacting on credit scores is the length of credit history
(15 percent). The longer a customer has had credit –
particularly if it's with the same financial institution – the
more points they get.

The mix of credit contributes 10 percent to the credit score.
Customers with the best scores have a mix of both revolving
credit, such as credit cards, and installment credit, such as
mortgages and car loans. Statistically, consumers with a richer
variety of experiences are better credit risks. As far as banks
and credit card companies are concerned, they know how to
handle money.

The last important factor taken into consideration is new
credit applications (10 percent). If you’ve applied for several
lines of credit in the past few months this will negatively
impact your credit score.

The antidotes to this are simple. Pay your bills in a timely
manner, particularly in the months leading up to an
application. Close unused retail store cards, credit cards and
old bank accounts with overdraft facilities. Maintain
long-standing and healthy arrangements with banks and other
lenders. Don’t apply for a stack of credit cards, loans and so
on, unless you’re absolutely sure it’s the right product for
you. It goes without saying that you shouldn’t apply for a
credit line unless you use it.

There’s a sixth factor that can contribute enormously to a
negative credit rating. In 2001 it became possible for
customers to get their own credit score in exchange for a small
fee. In the past, prospective lenders were able to keep this
score hidden, and many unscrupulous institutions used this
knowledge to charge a higher APR on credit. By being aware of
your credit score lenders can't lie and say your score was low
and charge higher APR on your credit card.

More importantly, it’s vital that you get rid of black marks on
your credit rating. Errors unfortunately happen all the time,
and erroneous reports of missed payments, referrals to debt
collectors and even bankruptcies can scupper your chances of
getting a low rate of interest and even a credit card
altogether. Query everything and haggle with credit reference
agencies so that only the information that is listed on your
credit history that should be there, is there.

You can find out your credit history by applying to one of
several companies. Many offer an online service and can furnish
you with the information both quickly and cheaply. Equifax,
Truecredit and Consumerinfo are some of the best such
providers.

Patience is the key to getting a great credit score – and the
best credit deals. You’re never going to make the jump from
having a credit score of 500 to one of 700 overnight, but by
implementing easy to follow and practical strategies, you can
quite easily leverage your credit score to a rating that is
respected by all concerned.

About the Author: Ethan Hunter is the author of many credit
related articles. This type of credit card scam is common in Europe, Asia and Latin America and is starting to show up more in the United States.

This scam is easy to run - it can happen when you give your credit card to a store employee to make a purchase. That employee may not only swipe your card for payment, but also swipe the card with a small machine they hold in their hand known as a skimmer. This small device will store the information from your card into its system. The skimmer is equipped to hold information on hundreds of credit cards and from this information, the crooks are able to produce counterfeit cards.

There are skimming rings working all over the world and once your information is put into the skimmer, it is then downloaded into a computer, ready to be emailed to anyone worldwide.

A decade ago, this fraud was not as easy to accomplish as it is today, due to the fact skimmers were very large and had to be hidden under counters. However, with the advance of technology in the past ten years, they have been able to streamline the skimmer, making it small enough to be hand-held and out of sight of the unwary customer making a purchase. These skimmers are easy to buy; in fact, they can be purchased over the internet at around $300. The machine needed to make counterfeit credit cards is a much larger investment - costing $5,000 to $10,000.

Another form of this scam is done by actually pulling information directly from the credit card terminals. A skimmer bug is placed into the terminal and later retrieved with credit card information on it. Only the older terminals can be violated in this way and with the onset of new credit card terminals, this has alleviated much of this bugging.

As soon as the crooks have their needed information on you, they will start their shopping sprees using your credit card number. They purchase all types of merchandise and charge it to your credit card. Over half of credit card fraud is done over the internet with online purchases. With shopping on the internet becoming more and more popular, card fraud on the internet has also increased.

The crooks will also use the internet to verify the card information is valid. They will purchase many low-ticket items through various websites, checking to see if the card is active. Internet processing of card purchases is done by real-time processing and not handled by a person; thus, no chance of them being caught trying to use a stolen card number.

The cardholder is a victim of this crime and is responsible for up to $50 of the total amount charged on his card, while the real victim in all of this is the merchant whose employee did the skimming. The merchant is held 100% responsible and risks losing the merchandise, and is responsible for paying the fees of the investigation. Investigation fees paid by consumers and businesses in 2003 amounted to an estimated half-billion dollars in annual revenue for credit card companies. This money is used by the card companies to offset costs to investigate charge back claims by their customers.

The crook who perpetrates this card fraud, for the most part, goes unpunished. There is a limit of $2,000 before a criminal investigation can be started; the crooks know this and will not exceed $2,000 on their purchases from any one business. Thus, they are pretty much free to continue to victimize consumers and businesses.

Michael Russell

Your Independent guide to Credit Cards

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell
http://EzineArticles.com/?Credit-Card-Skimming&id=363585

Credit Card Terminals

Credit Card Processing
By Thomas Morva

Nowadays, almost all establishments accept credit card payments. This is because many consumers make their purchases using their credit cards, and establishments who do not accept credit card payments risks losing potential sales. Given this, it is then essential for any company that intends to sell products in the market to make sure that their stores can accept credit payments. There’s good news, though! Today, accepting credit cards is usually a fairly easy process because companies can gain access to the tools that they need to be able to process credit card payments from a number of sources.

Setting up a merchant account

The first step in accepting credit cards is setting up a merchant account. This will involve locating the right merchant account provider or credit card processor. Many businesses do this through the banks where they do their business banking. However, not all banks provide credit card processing services.

A good source of information is any trade associations that a business belongs to, which may have negotiated rates with a certain credit card processor that the business could contact. Another good source of leads is from other businesses that already accept credit card payments. On the other hand, given that most processors aggressively pursue clients especially start up companies, it is most likely that these processors will contact new business owners and offer them their services.

In deciding on which credit card processor to use, it is a good idea to employ canvassing strategies, which includes interviewing each credit processor and asking them questions that can help business owners pick the right processor. Some of these questions include asking them about their fees, their rates, and other services that they provide their clients. After which, business owners then should analyze which processor can give them the best deal for the credit card processing services that they are offering.

Nowadays, no business establishment should be without credit card processing capabilities. This is because given that most people make many of their purchases using their credit cards, establishments that do not accept credit card payments risk losing a significant number of sales. The good news is that today, the tools that businesses need to be able to accept credit card payments, which includes merchant accounts, are easily accessible, as there are a large number of companies that provide credit card processing services.

Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. Credit Card Processing is affiliated with Wireless Credit Card Terminals.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Thomas_Morva
http://EzineArticles.com/?Credit-Card-Processing&id=255743

Credit Card Terminals

The Benefits Of A Credit Card Terminal
By Mike Singh

Having a credit card terminal in your business can greatly benefit it if used properly.

But having a merchant account that offers secure payment processing options is a huge advantage as, with the interest rates dropped, both customers and merchants alike can benefit from it.

Benefits an Offshore Merchant Account offers

Most banks, credit card processors and third party account processors refuse to accept small business/retail merchants if the business has not been operating for at least 2 years. Not only that but some companies even tend to hold security deposits and payments at times for additional security purposes and in order to avoid faulty transactions with their merchant accounts. That is why a credit card processor or a merchant account provider who understands your business needs is essential for success.

Merchant accounts with offshore credit card processing is also a lot more beneficial and the service tends to be a lot better than the one provided by your local bank as you are placed in a comparatively favorable jurisdiction and there are almost no tax problems and currency fluctuations. With an offshore merchant account you get a legal way of not only getting the real advantages of reduced taxes and additional payment processing options but you also get a genuine way to move your business proceeds offshore. Ecommerce merchant accounts reduce paper works, phone calls, mailing expenses labor charge and slowness of auditing. All the transactions are automatically done on your bank account.

You can either establish your own ecommerce merchant account or can avail the service of a third party who processes payments for you. Generally, third party accounts are useful for new merchants, and self owned accounts are useful for well established merchants. There are lots of banks and private merchant account providers (Map?s) offering ecommerce merchant accounts. You can also apply online. The minimum requirement is that you should have a well maintained website and a bank account.

Ecommerce merchant accounts vary widely. Some account providers charge a monthly fee, some charge weekly fee, and others charge a one time fee. You have to select an account according to the revenues generated and the current status of your business. Always look for a provider with high approval rate (more than 90%). When applying, make sure that the account can process all popular credit card payments such as Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. If you are going for market products or services globally, it is important to apply for a multicurrency ecommerce merchant account. Always deal with a provider who offers ample protection against frauds.

Setting up an ecommerce account is very easy. The set up fee for a third party account costs around $50 and your own account can cost around $600. However, setting up of ecommerce merchant accounts through banks is not so easy, as there will be some credit checks. Usually, banks do not provide accounts for new merchants. The transaction rate can be either around 2-3% of the transacted amount or $.30 per transaction. The discount rates are usually $10 to $15 a month, and the rolling reserve can be around $20 a month.

Merchant Accounts provides detailed information on Merchant Accounts, Credit Card Merchant Accounts, Internet Merchant Accounts, About High Risk Merchant Accounts and more.

The Benefits Of A Credit Card Terminal
By Mike Singh

Having a credit card terminal in your business can greatly benefit it if used properly. So many people now use credit cards for buying and selling that a credit card terminal is almost necessary. Without a terminal you can stand to lose profits if you are not careful.

Technology that is now available in regards to cards and having a credit card terminal is part of what can bring success to businesses. If you do order a terminal you will find that there are willing people to help you to install it just by dialing the telephone. They will walk you through every single step and even help you figure out how exactly to use it. Just remember any hassle that seems to come from having a terminal can be balanced out by more sales be created by its instillation.

There is the option of either buying a terminal straight out or leasing it from a licensed dealer and this can offer more options and convenience. Even if you are a brand new business just starting you can find a dealer who would be more than willing to rent you a terminal, it just takes a little legwork to find it. In the end it can only make your business stronger and more successful.

Of course your customers should be aware that there might be some small fees when it comes to terminals. There are different companies that provide terminals and some will have a certain percentage charged for each transaction that is completed on the terminal. A fee may also be charged to the business owner, but is so minimal that it doesn't even affect the benefits you will receive from having a wider customer base because of it.

You can find businesses online that sell terminals as well as those that lease them.
